Beach wardens start the new holiday season in Burnham and Berrow

-

Beach wardens are back on the beach at Berrow and Burnham-On-Sea for the Spring and Summer season.

Last week, the Sedgemoor District Council wardens completed training on first aid at work, plus defibrillation and manual handling ahead of the holiday season.

With assistance from Sedgemoor’s Clean Surroundings Team and the community service, the wardens have also conducted a beach clean operation ahead of the busy Easter holiday.

“Wardens are an essential part of the water safety team and dealt with over 200 incidents last season at Berrow, with a further 30 on Brean sands,” beach manager Graham Newing told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Wardens are pro-active in anticipating and using preventative strategies to avoid rescues taking place.”

He added that there has been an increase in complaints regarding animals on the beach, particularly horses, and the wardens will be monitoring this.
