Shops in Burnham-On-Sea were warned on Saturday (April 25th) to watch out for fake bank notes circulating in the town.
It comes after a visitor attempted to use several counterfeit £50 notes to buy a large quantity of stationery products from Bastins on the High Street on Saturday morning.
A spokeswoman for the shop confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We always check large bank notes and therefore discovered the notes were counterfeit before the customer left with the goods.”
Within minutes, a warning went out to other shops and businesses across Burnham-On-Sea via the Radio Link system to advise them to look out for further suspicious money.
There have been several other warnings about fake bank notes in recent years. Last August, a Burnham-On-Sea Carnival Club accepted £100 of counterfeit notes at a street party in the town centre, and in June 2007 a warning was issued after a fake £20 note was accepted by staff at the Victoria Hotel.
