Plans for proposed River Parrett tidal barrier set to go on show

-

Plans for a new ‘barrage’ across the River Parrett upstream between Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater are set to go on display.

Sedgemoor District Council is organising an information session, designed to update people on the latest developments with the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier Scheme, on Monday July 10th at Bridgwater Town Hall between 2pm and 7pm.

Staff from the Environment Agency and Sedgemoor District Council will be on hand to answer questions and listen to any comments or concerns.

“The scheme will reduce the tidal flood risk to Bridgwater and surrounding areas for the next 100 years and has a construction target date of 2024,” the council’s spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The proposed site for the barrier is between Express Park and Chilton Trinity. The scheme will also include improvements to the flood defences downstream of the barrier.”
