Burnham postcard collection valued by BBC Antiques Roadshow experts

-

A scrapbook full of old postcards owned by a Burnham-On-Sea collector has been valued at hundreds of pounds by experts from the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow.

Nikki Triggol, pictured, travelled to Bath last Thursday to take part in the taping of an episode of the long-running BBC1 series.

Her collection of postcards, some of which date back over a hundred years, include images of Burnham and traditional seaside humour scenes from the early 1900s.

They were examined by the programme’s antiques experts, who said they are worth around £400.

The collection was started by Nikki’s grandmother and has been added to by her family over the years.

“The collection has got passed on through the family and has great sentimental value,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“There are several hundred postcards, including several showing old scenes of Weston and Burnham.”

“I often look through them and read the comments on the back, then think how wonderful it would be to trace the families who sent them. Each card has a story to tell.”

Nikki says she was surprised to learn the collection’s value, but added: “It’s got such sentimental value that I could never sell it or split it up.”

“We got to see the BBC’s Fiona Bruce and several other well-known faces from the TV programme on the day and we were asked to be in a couple of the show’s background shots, so maybe be spotted smiling and nodding in the TV show!”
