The remains of a car believed to have been stranded in mud beneath Brean Beach for several decades has emerged this week… and the owner faces a huge parking bill in the unlikely event that he or she comes forward.
Beachwardens have been watching the car’s rusty remains appear out of the mud a half mile out on Brean’s mudflats over recent days following the latest high tides.
Beachwarden Dave Furber told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It appears to be the chassis of a 1960s vehicle which is very slowly becoming visible out on the mudflats.”
“The car has clearly been there for many years, stuck under the beach surface and it’s not possible to see what model it is.”
He added: “By our reckoning, the car’s owner owes the Parish Council a lot of back parking fees — about £64,000 at today’s rates!”
“We’re not expecting the owner of this one to get in touch – especially with such a large parking bill! – but it would be interesting to know how it got here and what the story behind it was.”
“The tides here are always shifting the sand and mud around, so we do occasionally see vehicles from many years ago emerge and sink back down.”
