Hundreds of seeds were planted besides a Highbridge roundabout on Saturday (April 14th) when the town’s Mayor joined local groups at a special planting session to celebrate National Gardening Week.
Free wildflower meadow seeds have been given to Highbridge in Bloom and Highbridge Dreamscheme by the Royal Horticultural Society as part of an initiative to celebrate National Gardening Week and this year’s Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor and Mayoress, Michael and Maria Clarke, attended Saturday’s planting session with members of Highbridge in Bloom and Highbridge Dreamscheme, plus residents and County Councillor John Woodman, as pictured.
“A lot of people across the UK have been inspired by the BBC presenter Sarah Raven to sow wild flower meadow seeds in urban areas to avoid the necessity of councils having to keep cutting the grass verges,” Pam Lyes, of Highbridge in Bloom, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We are delighted to have received a quantity of seeds from the Royal Horticultural Society for Highbridge and are grateful to everyone who helped us plant the seeds.”
