Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and BARB volunteers were called out on Thursday (July 20th) to reports of a despondent person threatening to enter the water from the town’s jetty.
Beach wardens, Coastguards, BARB, lifeguards and Police were all called to the scene at 2.30pm.
A Coastguard spokesman said: “With concern for the person’s wellbeing paramount to all, these various services stayed in the background and let the Police take the lead and talk to the person.”
“This was the right strategy as they were soon able to escort them away from danger and back to the safety and support of their family.”
“This was a great outcome for all concerned and very reassuring that there was a strong rescue team ready to react if required.”
“If anyone does feel that they need to talk to someone and that life is getting difficult, please remember the Samaritans and that they are available 24 hours a day and free to call on 116 123.”
“If you spot anyone in difficulty or danger along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguards.”
