Two arrested and 20 searched in police’s ongoing drugs operation

-

Burnham-On-Sea police have this week arrested two men on drugs possession offences and searched 20 others during an ongoing crackdown against drugs use in the town.

A specialised drug testing machine was used at Michaels Bar on Burnham seafront, as pictured, to undertake random testing.

Further to this, police made nine alcohol seizures for underage drinking and offences related to drinking in the street.

Inspector Sam Williams and Sgt Ian Kennett are pictured below with the manager of Michaels Bar, where the machine was successfully used to stop clubbers entering the premises with drugs.

Inspector Sam Williams told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This operation was a great success for the area. Burnham, Berrow and Brean are very safe places to both live and visit and the Avon and Somerset Constabulary are determined for it to stay that way during the busy summer season.”

“These operations were to show that we care about our visitors and residents alike. We welcome visitors to the area and we aim to make everyone’s time here safe, enjoyable and crime free.”

“Those who choose to impact negatively upon this position can expect to be dealt with appropriately and robustly. Neither we nor our communities will tolerate crime or anti-social behaviour. The community feedback I have received has been greatly positive and hugely rewarding for my team.”

Officers also carried out Crime Reduction and Property Marking displays at Berrow, and leaflets outlining crime prevention tips for caravan and car owners and personal safety were also distributed.
