Police have arrested a man as they investigate the theft of several valuables from a Burnham-On-Sea jewellery shop.
Hundreds of pounds of items were taken from Antony James in Burnham-On-Sea High Street, pictured above, last week as we first reported here.
Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft. He has been released under investigation.”
Burnham-On-Sea.com understands that high-quality CCTV footage at the premises has helped the Police with their ongoing enquiries.
Officers said a man and a woman went into the jewellery shop at lunchtime on Tuesday (18th July) to look at rings before allegedly taking two rings off a ring pad and leaving the shop.
“They returned later in the afternoon. While the woman was talking to a shop assistant, the man tried to take two rings but the assistant grabbed both rings and the suspects left, got in a car and drove away.”
Several rings were recovered and Police enquiries are continuing into the ‘distraction theft’.
