Burnham-On-Sea youth centre appeals for funds to halt leaks

-

Burnham Area Youth Centre is seeking thousands of pounds to fix problems with rain water leaking into the building.

The centre in Cassis Close, which is used by more than 20 different groups and over 500 users a week, needs £7,500 for the work.

£2,500 has this week been pledged to the project by Sedgemoor District Council’s Grants Award Sub-Committee at a meeting held on Tuesday (November 18th).

“The windows in the hall roof are leaking badly and need to be replaced. Water entering the building can make it hazardous to use and on occasions unusable,” said case officer Robert Semple.

The district council approved £2,500 (33.8% of the total project cost) and the BAY Centre also has other separate grant applications pending.

BAY Centre Chairman Mike Lang told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s good news that Sedgemoor has given us this funding towards the work, but we are still seeking other grants before we are able to go ahead with the project.”
