A group of 13 sea cadets from Burnham-On-Sea has achieved a clean sweep of all the trophies in their category at a national drill competition.
Following their success at the South West Area Drill and Ceremonial competition in March, as we featured here, the 13-strong team from Burnham’s TS Dulverton Sea Cadets took part in the National Competition at HMS Raleigh in Plymouth at the weekend.
In a superb achievement, they managed a clean sweep of all the cups in their category – including Best Squad Commander, best dressed squad, best arena display and the overall winner.
Last year, the unit won the Colour Party competition for smaller units and, having grown steadily in the last 12 months, it was a major achievement just to get to the national competition, let alone to win it outright.
Commanding Officer Lt Bob Silverthorne told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This success is an example not only of the quality of cadets at TS Dulverton, but also of the commitment given by the adult instructors and supporters in providing superb training in an excellent facility.”
Squad Commander, POC Matt Tutton and his team POC Hayes, AC Yates, Cdt Brown, LC Astill, Cdt Massarella, Cdt Severe, Cdt Hancock, Cdt Morgan, OC Howard, Cdt Ward, OC Dyson and OC Edwards were justifiably proud of their achievements and are already discussing the unit’s next challenge.
