Runners start challenge to complete 7 marathons in 7 days for charity

-

A group of three runners from Burnham-On-Sea, Highbridge and Bridgwater have begun their challenge to raise thousands of pounds for charity by completing 7 marathons in 7 days around Somerset.

The trio – Scott Woodberry of Burnham, Matthew Axe of Highbridge and Tim Scarrott of Bridgwater – were cheered off by friends, family and supporters on Burnham seafront on Saturday morning, as pictured above.

The trio are running in aid of three charities: Petal – The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust which supports cancer sufferers, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, and the Heart Foundation.

Scott has been heavily involved in charity work over the past six years on behalf of Petal that he and his brother and sister set up in memory of their mum, Christine Woodberry.

.THE SEVEN MARATHONS IN SEVEN DAYS: 22nd November – Burnham-On-Sea – Cheddar

23rd November – Cheddar – Bristol

24th November – Bristol – Frome

25th November – Frome – Glastonbury

26th November – Glastonbury – Taunton

27th November – Taunton – Minehead

28th November – Minehead – Bridgwater

Two friends that he met whilst completing the Five-Peaks Challenge in 2013 in aid of Petal were keen to take part in another challenge and this was how this team was formed. Matthew and Tim both have nominated their own charities of choice.

They have been putting in the hours over the past few months to train for the challenge.

Training runs have taken them from places such as Torquay to Brixham and back.

“Each cause is very dear to our hearts and will be at the forefront of our minds during this challenge,” said Scott.

“We have been lucky enough to secure some local company support who are offering a donation to have their logos on the boys shirts – Taylor’s Landscaping, M Mansfield Estate Agents, Avalon Leisure and Unique Gym in Bridgwater plus others.”

Over £3,600 has been donated to the mens’ charities so far, and further donations can still be made online via their donations page, which can be accessed here.
