Burnham-On-Sea historian to give talk on town’s key milestones

-

Dozens of historical photos showing life in Burnham-On-Sea over the past 130 years will be displayed during a special talk this week.

Local historian John Strickland will give an illustrated talk on ‘The Important Dates in the History of Burnham’ at North Sedgemoor Local History Group’s meeting on Wednesday night (May 9th).

“It promises to be a very interesting evening with stories including a local witch, a baby in a crib washed out of his home by seawater, the sale of the spa buildings and grounds and the tithe map of 1840,” John told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Some of the dozens of slides he will show include several rarely-seen images from the 1880s.

Wednesday’s talk will start at 7pm at King Alfred School Lecture Theatre in Highbridge. All visitors are welcome to attend for just £1.
