Six fire crews from across the area were called to tackle a big blaze in Brean on Friday evening (August 4th).
Crews were called to Brean Farm in Brean Down Road at 6.25pm where a large barn, measuring 100m x 50m, was well alight.
Fire engines from Burnham-On-Sea, Cheddar and Bridgwater, along with a water carrier from Bridgwater, were initially sent to reports of a barn alight.
A spokesman said: “Crews got to work with a hose reel jet and a main jet fighting the fire and protecting surrounding buildings.”
“The officer in charge then requested the attendance of a further three fire engines to make the count up to six.”
“These were sent from Nether Stowey, Glastonbury and Wells. An incident command unit was also sent from Wiveliscombe.”
“The incident was sectorised into two sectors and crews then got to work extinguisng the blaze.”
An eyewitness told Burnham-On-Sea.com that holidaymakers helped to move caravans and animals to safety in the initial stages.
A spokesperson from Brean Farm said: “We would like to reassure you that everyone is OK, including the animals! Thanks to the heroic efforts of Channel View customers, neighbours and bystanders all caravans in storage have been moved away from the source of the fire. The fire brigade have confirmed there has been no caravans damaged and they are not at risk. They will continue to monitor the fire over night.”
The cause of the fire was not known.
