Road signs, bottles, cotton buds and plastic netting were among the large quantities of rubbish taken away from Burnham-On-Sea beach during a special clean-up operation.
Sackfuls of rubbish were collected by local volunteers when an event organised by Somerset Wildlife Trust to mark National Marine Week was held on Friday (11th August).
Helpers from the Friends of Burnham Beach and Litter Free Somerset gathered on the South Esplanade to complete the two-hour clean-up.
“We had a great beach clean to protect our coast and amazing marine wildlife by removing litter,” said a spokesperson.
At least fifteen sackfuls of rubbish were removed during the afternoon, and organisers thanked all those who had taken part.
