Plan to shut Burnham-On-Sea Police Station still being considered

-

Talks are still ongoing over controversial plans to close Burnham-On-Sea Police station, it has been confirmed this week.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week, a Police spokesman said: “We are still looking at options and have not committed to anything at the moment.”

A move to smaller premises at Burnham Fire Station or setting up a ‘drop-in desk’ at Burnham-On-Sea Library are among the alternatives under consideration to cut costs if the current Police Station in Highbridge Road shuts.

Police say they are looking for a new option as the current building is double the size we need.” The constabulary is consulting with stakeholders and looking at options.

The possible closure of the station was first announced two years ago.

And Sue Mountsevens, the region’s Police and Crime Commisioner, said last year that Burnham Police Station is considerably bigger than needed, as we reported here.
