Organisers gear up for 19th annual Brean Rally as 90 drivers sign up

-

Up to 90 drivers are gearing up to take part in the 19th annual Brean Rally, which is set to return to the village’s Leisure Park in January.

The 2015 Brean Stages Rally will be held over the weekend of January 24th and 25th and will form the opening rounds of three major regional rally championships – the Association of South Western Motor Clubs, Association West Midlands Motor Clubs Heart of England and the Cotswold Motor Sport Group.

The rally will be held entirely within the confines of Brean Leisure Park and up to 90 rally cars will tackle the 12 special stages over the two days.

“This will be the nineteenth consecutive year for the rally at Brean and it promises to be as exciting and as big as ever with some of the top rally crews from around the UK expected to enter,” organiser Rod McKenna told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Such is the popularity of this event that enquiries for entries have been received from all parts of the UK.”

“The rally is once again expected to attract a wide range of rally cars from state of the art World Rally Cars to the ever popular Ford Escorts, Vauxhall’s and Peugeots.”

“A great feature of the rally will be the pre-rally scutineering of the cars, which will take place at the Weston College Campus in the Locking Road on the Friday preceding the rally. This provides an excellent chance for the public to see the rally cars close up and admission to the campus is free.”

“The organisers are ensuring that spectators are well looked after with three spectator areas giving excellent viewing of the rally stages. This together with a covered seated grandstand and the parks inside and outside catering facilities will provide a weekend extravaganza of motorsport.”

Spectators will be admitted to the park over both days for an admission charge of just £5 (accompanied children under 12 will be admitted free) and car parking will be £5.

Peter Lloyd and his co-driver Carl Sorensen raced to a 42-second win over the 12 stages of the rally this year with the 2013 winners Steve and Yvonne Furzeland (pictured) in second place.
