Burnham-On-Sea’s iconic wooden lighthouse has been named as one of the world’s ten most beautiful lighthouses.
An article on the US news website Huffington Post highlights Burnham lighthouse as being “striking” and “fascinating”.
“Not all lighthouses are striking round towers located on rocky outcrops. In the coastal town of Burnham-On-Sea in Somerset, you’ll find something completely different – a Low Lighthouse,” says the site.
“It may not be as beautiful as some of the other lighthouses around the world, but it certainly is fascinating.”
Burnham’s nine-legged wooden lighthouse was built in 1832 and is a Grade II Heritage listed structure.
The full list of the top 10 lighthouses also includes Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse, Nova Scotia in Canada; Holland Harbour in Michigan; Vizhinjam Lighthouse, Kerala in India; Neist Point Lighthouse, Isle of Skye in Scotland; Bass Harbour Head Light, Maine; Cape Byron Bay Lighthouse, New South Wales in Australia; Maspalomas Lighthouse, Gran Canaria in Spain; Cape Neddick Lighthouse, Maine; and Corbiere Lighthouse, Jersey in the Channel Islands.
