New World Paper Plane Champions are crowned in Burnham-On-Sea!

-

Two Burnham-On-Sea residents were crowned the 2017 World Paper Aeroplane Champions on Sunday (August 20th) after a successful event was held in the town centre.

Hundreds of Burnham-On-Sea residents and visitors got a chance to take part in the third annual championships when they were held in the High Street.

The free-to-enter event was organsied by Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade and event specialists Wacky Nation with the support of Sedgemoor District Council to bring more people into the town centre and promote Burnham’s shops and businesses.

The champion’s trophy and a cash prize for the longest flight of the day was jointly presented to Richard Curtis and Syed Hassan, pictured right, after they both threw their planes a huge distance of 30.7 metres.

There were also scores of golden pilot’s badges prizes won through the day for those who landed their planes in a lucky yellow square in the street.

A Chamber of Trade spokesman said: “This is the third time the event has been held here in Burnham to encourage more people into our town centre and promote our range of shops and businesses.”

“We had a lot of families taking part through the day and our congratulations go to Richard Curtis and Syed Hasan who threw a mammoth 30.7m with their glider-style paper planes.”

Among those attending through the day were Burnham’s MP James Heappey, Mayor and Mayoress Bill and Frances Hancock, parliamentary candidate Tessa Munt, and several local councillors.
