The winning designs of a Jubilee art competition in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge have been announced this week.
Pupils at several schools in the two towns, including St Joseph’s, St Andrew’s, King Alfred, Churchfield and Burnham Infants, were challenged to create a picture or image that would best sum up the feeling of the Diamond Jubilee in our area.
The competition was launched in April to find three artists whose artwork will be painted onto the wall of the Lions Club building at the Bay Centre field in Burnham on the day of the town’s Jubilee Family Fun Day, Monday June 4th.
There was strong competition, but there were three clear winners – Lilly Keeley-Watts (St Joseph’s), Samuel Keeley-Watts (St Joseph’s) and Ophelia Buckton (St Andrew’s).
One of the organisers told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The judges felt that all three pictures really summed up the overall feel of the event and would be a fantastic reminder of the day for generations to come.”
“Their designs will be ‘drafted out’ in advance and there will be an opportunity for the public to pick up a paintbrush on the day and help recreate their pictures onto the building wall, weather permitting.”
“Well done to all three and thanks to all those who took part in the competition.”
Thanks also went to Cora Stock and Highbridge and Burnham Artists (HABA), who kindly offered their assistance on the day.
The Jubilee Fun Day will be held at the Burnham Road Playing fields next to the BAY Centre from 12pm – 7pm on Monday June 4th when all will be welcome.
