These were the scenes in Burnham-On-Sea on Wednesday evening (May 30th) when firefighters were called to rescue a sheep stuck in a water-filled rhyne.

One appliance from Burnham and a water rescue team from Bridgwater was sent to a field next to Ben Travers Way at 6.45pm.

A passing walker had spotted the distressed animal stuck in the water and called the emergency services.

Fire service spokesman Paul Slaven told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The sheep, which was tangled up in brambles, was rescued from the water-filled ditch by crews using dry suits and a ladder.”

The fire service says there is a risk that people will put their own lives into danger by attempting to reach animals if they are not rescued.

Once freed from the rhyne, the animal ran away… rather sheepishly
