Fundraisers have taken to horseback in Burnham-On-Sea this week to raise funds for a new charity formed in memory of a Burnham-On-Sea teenager.
Horse riders Jenna Picton and Gemma Dade rode around several residential areas of Burnham, carol singing and collecting for ‘In Charley’s Memory’.
The group was formed in memory of 18 year-old Charley Marks, who took his own life in September. The charity will be supporting other young people with mental health issues and, as we reported last week, it has already reached its initial target of £5,000 to formally register the charity.
Jenna told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We wanted to do something a bit different to raise funds for the charity and, riding on horseback dressed as Santa, got lots of attention and many people were happy to give funds.”
The charity has a number of fundraising events planned for the next year, including a race night, a physic evening, a ball, and marathon runs.
“I’m amazed with the wonderful support being shown – it’s growing all the time and it is really overwhelming,” said Charley’s mother, Jo Clement, who thanked all those helping the group.
