Judges from the Britain In Bloom competition visited Burnham-On-Sea on Tuesday (July 21st) and were impressed with the colourful floral displays on show across the town.
The two judges were met by Burnham Mayor Derick Cooper and Burnham In Bloom organisers Richard Young and Dave Perrett, as pictured here.
Despite poor weather, the group went on a three-hour tour of Burnham to assess the state of the town.
Burnham-On-Sea.com joined the group as they started off in Berrow Road, then travelled to Links Gardens, Saxondale Avenue, Berrow Triangle, Stoddens Road, Conway Crescent, the BASC Ground, Home Farm, Queen’s Drive, Burnham Infants School, Burnham High Street, The Esplanade, Marine Drive, Apex Park and Manor Gardens.
Mr Young told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The judges were really impressed this year and particularly liked Apex Park and Burnham Infants School.”
“They also gave us positive feedback on the plans to redevelop Marine Cove.”
“The council’s floral displays in Burnham have been excellent this year and a thank you goes to the district council’s Clean Surroundings Team for their help.”
Mr Young added: “We gave the judges a copy of Burnham-On-Sea.com’s preview story about the judging, which also earned Burnham a tick in the publicity box.”
The town will find out in the middle of September how it has performed in the overall competition.
Burnham-On-Sea was awarded a silver gilt award in the 2008 Britain In Bloom Sergent Cup, which is open to mid-sized towns across the region. It came after disappointment in 2007 when the town performed poorly. The Bloom judges also visited Highbridge a fortnight ago – as reported here – and hopes are high of success.
