Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea were called out to rescue a pony and a cow stuck in mud in two separate incidents on Friday (September 1st).
In the first incident at 9am, the pony had become stuck in a water-filled rhyne in Eastertown, Lympsham.
Crews from Burnham and Bridgwater attended the scene and were assisted by the fire service’s Urban Search and Rescue Team. They cleared the reeds to gain access and used lines, strops and a telehandler to release the pony, which was left in the care of the owner and a vet.
Then at 7.35pm, specialist animal rescue crews from Bridgwater and fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea were called to Lympsham where a cow was stuck in a water filled ditch.
Crews located the cow and with the help of a local farmer and using lines, they were able to pull the cow unharmed from the ditch.
