A pre-school near Burnham-On-Sea has made an urgent appeal for help as it bids to secure a grant worth thousands of pounds.
Lympsham Pre-school has applied to the One Family Foundation for a £10,000 grant and it is hoping that residents across the area will support it before voting closes on Wednesday.
If successful, the funding would be used to revamp its rotting disabled access ramp which is in a state of disrepair.
School administrator Sarah Saxon told Burnham-on-Sea.com: “It is one of our main access points to the preschool and is used by most of our parents and children who require both wheelchair and pushchair access.”
“It is falling apart and it probably will not last another winter. We want our parents and students to have safe access to our school.”
She added that under the One Family Foundation Grant system, the school has to get into the top three places to qualify for a grant. “We are currently fourth, which is a real achievement, considering we were 7th last Sunday among 22 groups in our category nationwide.”
“We would also like to put £4,000 of the grant towards an all weather surface in the outdoor area. This would enable the children to spend more time outside and provide more opportunities to play sport and be active.”
“We are up against some tough competition from large community projects in Bristol and further afield. We are asking our local community to get behind this project and vote for us.”
“If one person can vote and encourage a few of their friends, family to vote, it would be like a snowball effect and the results could be fantastic. We just need one final push to get into the top three.”
The pre-school merged with Lympsham Academy last year and joined the Wessex Learning Trust. It cares for around 120 children.
