A Burnham-On-Sea cul-de-sac whose stunning display of 100,000 twinkling Christmas lights has been dubbed ‘Britain’s most festive street’ has raised more than £4,000 for charity in three weeks.
The eight Trinity Close homes switched on their illuminations at the start of December and crowds of visitors have flocked to see them.
The homes are decorated top to bottom with lights, in addition to roofs, lawns and garden fences. The display is lit each night between 4pm and 10pm until January 4th.
The lights raised a total of £8,250 for charity last year and this year’s collection is helping PETAL: The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust, plus Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue, Musgrove Park Maternity Ward and Burnham Scouts. A total of £50,000 has been raised for charity since the collections started eight years ago.
Resident Roger Flower told Burnham-On-Sea.com the street has been “very busy” in recent days. “This year’s charity total has passed £4,000 and we’re on track to raise about the same as last year, possibly more, which is superb,” he said.
The Daily Mail newspaper sad Trinity Close is ‘Britain’s Most Festive Street’ and ITV West also featured the display on Friday evening.
Residents Nick and Hazel Gardner began the tradition 12 years ago with neighbours Chris Woodberry and his late wife Christine.
The display is being lit each evening between 4pm and 10pm until Sunday January 4th when the final charity tally will be calculated.
