A Burnham-On-Sea group is celebrating gaining official charity status.
Somerset Time For Youth offers social and leisure activities for local special needs young people from across the Burnham-On-Sea area aged 0-18yrs.
“It has always been a goal for us since we were first formed three years ago and we are delighted to have finally achieved the official charity status,” Chairwoman Lisa Prout told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“It will mean people will take us more seriously and also be confident when they donate money to us that we are a registered charity.”
The group celebrated the news with a party at the Balliol Hall in West Huntspill, where a £500 donation was presented by Steve Scott of Scotts Furnishings.
Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Mayor, Cllr Bill Hancock, has also named the group as his official charity of the year.
The Mayor told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is a fantastic group and I’m delighted they have got the registered charity status. To have done it with only five members on their committee is a superb achievement. I am full of admiration for the work this organisation does.”
Somerset Time For Youth meets every other Saturday in the Balliol Hall at West Huntspill when new members and their siblings are welcomed. An adult needs to be in attendance throughout the session in order to support the child/young person and to encourage them in the activities on offer.
