Students to pedal to Paris to raise funds for Burnham-On-Sea charity

-

A group of college students are gearing up to take part in a charity bike ride from London to Paris in the Spring to raise money for recently-launched Burnham charity In Charley’s Memory.

The youngsters from Bridgwater College will pedal along the 280-mile route to the French capital during a four-day challenge in May.

The sponsored bike ride is being held to help raise awareness and cash for the charity formed in memory of 18-year-old Charley Marks, who died in September.

The new group aims to support young people with mental health issues and has been chosen by Bridgwater College as one of its charities of the year, alongside Help For Heroes. The students will also be holding several 12-hour cycling events at Morrisons in Bridgwater over the coming months.

Dom Hodges, associate lecturer for sports and services at Bridgwater College said: “This will be an excellent opportunity for students to continue to develop their personal leadership and teamwork skills, whilst experiencing a different environment and country.”

One of those taking is Kyle Gibbs-Hartley, 19, who said: “The 12-hour cycles are excellent for raising the profile of our cycle along with funding a good charity that helps a lot of people deserving of their time and money. I want to do the cycle as it is a challenge itself that requires will power, determination and will be internally satisfying as well as physically enduring.”
