The safety of a busy road in Burnham-On-Sea is in the spotlight this week after a motorbike accident.
A motorcyclist came off Pople’s Bow, leaving the bike badly damaged and police to tape off the scene, as pictured.
Highbridge Town Councillor Chris Williams told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Despite the opening of the Frank Foley Parkway, Pople’s Bow is still being used as a rat run to and from the A38.”
“Speeds on this relatively narrow lane are often excessive, particularly in the early morning and evenings.”
“There have been several minor scrapes in the last fortnight, culminating in this accident.”
He added that the partial closure of the road could be one way of reducing speeds along the stretch.
“One solution would be to close off the section of Pople’s Bow between Havage Close and Broads Drove (about 60 metres) except for pedestrians and cyclists.”
“This would give access only for farm traffic and vehicles to houses along the remainder of Pople’s Bow.”
“Traffic from the Worston Road area could then use Frank Foley Parkway which has been constructed to a far safer standard.”
