Neighbourhood Watch Week to be marked in Burnham and Highbridge

-

Neighbourhood Watch Week is being marked in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge this week with several events.

Police will be at Asda in Highbridge on Tuesday (June 19th) from 10am-noon, offering information and details about running the schemes.

And Burnham Police will be at Burnham library on Wednesday (June 20th), providing details about the crime prevention sceme from 9.30am-noon.

There are more than 4,600 Neighbourhood Watch schemes throughout the Avon and Somerset police area, with around one in four households currently benefiting from the increased security of knowing someone is keeping an eye on their property.

Research shows that homes that are part of Neighbourhood Watch schemes are four times less likely to be burgled than those that are not.

This year’s Neighbourhood Watch Week celebrates the 30th year of the scheme. The first scheme was founded in Mollington, Cheshire, in 1982. Since then, the network has grown to become one of the largest voluntary movements across the UK.
