The completion of a three year project to boost community development in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge was celebrated at a special event at the weekend.
Burnham’s Mayor Derick Cooper and Rosemarie Parsons, the outgoing chairwoman of the Regeneration Partnership, were among the audience at the function in Highbridge Community Hall.
The crowd of almost 100 people also bid farewell to Sue Quatermass, the Partnership’s community development worker, as her position comes to its scheduled end.
“Sue has done an excellent job over the last few years and will be greatly missed,” Mrs Parsons told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The community development project has been absolutely brilliant in enabling local groups to strengthen their capacity to raise funds and get volunteers, and thereby create projects which benefit the community.”
Among the groups to have been helped by the project are Highbridge Youth Club, the Highbridge and Burnham Artists group, Morland Community Hall and Highbridge Children’s Centre.
Sue, who is moving to a new role at Mendip Community Support, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m sad to be leaving and will miss the many friends I have made here. It’s been wonderful to see how people here genuinely care about their community and I thank everyone for making my role both interesting and challenging.”
