A Highbridge motorist has been given a jail sentence after being convicted of perverting the course of justice and other motoring offences.
Edward Osgood, 43, of Burnham Road appeared at Taunton Crown Court on Friday (June 29th) where he was sentenced to three months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 100 hours of unpaid work.
He admitted at an earlier hearing to perverting the course of justice, speeding and other motoring offences.
He was caught by a police speed camera doing 58mph in a 30mph zone on the A38 in Bridgwater. He denied it was him or his bike and later modified the bike when presenting photographs to back up his case – he changed the wing mirrors and indicators and stickers, but when a police officer visited him at home they found he had returned the bike to its original state, just like the one caught on camera.
The officer also checked a van he owned and discovered through the police’s Automatic Numberplate Recognition system (ANPR) that, despite not having a licence, Mr Osgood had used it around 50 times.
