Dozens of people flocked to Burnham-On-Sea’s Marine Cove gardens on Thursday (August 27th) when a special open day was held to gather feedback about plans to restore the facility.
Sedgemoor’s Park and Open Spaces Officers encouraged residents to visit the gardens to find out more about the facility’s restoration plans.
“There was also an opportunity to observe the shelters being painted by local artist Paula Lundy and to sign up to join the Friends of Marine Cove Gardens group,” council spokeswoman Marina Turner told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Members of the public were also able to share their ideas about the activities they would like to see taking place here once the gardens have been restored.”
Marine Cove Gardens is one of seven sites in the UK to be awarded £29,500 by the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks for People programme.
It is the first amount to be awarded as part of a £362,900 application to restore the gardens.
The Friends of Marine Cove Gardens was set up at the beginning of the year to discuss ideas for activities and events which could take place.
The voluntary group are a mixture of concerned residents, councillors and local business owners who meet regularly to discuss and support the Sedgemoor District Council’s restoration and preservation plans.
