A Burnham-On-Sea resident has this week called on councillors to do more to stop ‘traffic chaos’ along a busy road in the town.
Priory Gardens resident Dinah Jephcott, pictured, spoke out at Monday’s meeting of the Town Council’s Town Projects Committee.
She said: “I would like to propose that double yellow lines are put in place along Priory Gardens Road half way along, where the road bends from Boniface Walk.”
“The reason is that where the council implemented double yellow lines not long ago, a new problem has been created further down the road because it’s on the bend where all the cars are parking.”
“Your view is restricted when you drive around the bend and so when a car comes from the opposite direction it comes upon you quickly. There is an accident waiting to happen.”
“When the cars meet each other on the road, because of the cars parked on the bend, this creates a single lane.”
“By having double yellow lines there, it will stop parking and create a passing point for cars to pull in and pass each other safely.”
The council’s committee chairman, Cllr Michael Clarke, who previously lived in that area of Burnham, thanked Mrs Jephcott and responded: “The traffic issues in Priory Gardens have been brought up several times by this council and we are working hard behind the scenes to try and alleviate them.”
