Burnham-On-Sea’s MP, David Heathcoat-Amory, is set to meet senior police officers in a bid to find a solution to ongoing congestion problems on the M5 motorway near the town.
It is the second time in recent months that Mr Heathcoat-Amory has voiced his concerns over lengthy tailbacks caused by police cordoning off long sections of motorway.
Mr Heathcoat-Amory told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Friday (September 4th): “I have been contacted by residents in my constituency who are very concerned about long delays that have occurred on the M5 this year, most recently during the August Bank Holiday weekend when the northbound section was closed for 8 hours.”
“I fully appreciate the problems and frustration shared by all of those concerned, not least by the police who were faced with a life-threatening incident, which was further compounded by the volume of traffic generated on the last bank holiday of the year.”
He added: “It is my intention to invite Avon and Somerset Police to meet with me in the hope of finding a solution to the problem.”
