Lands End to John O’Groats cyclists pedal through Highbridge

-

Two groups of fundraising cyclists who are peddling from John O’Groats to Lands End have passed through Highbridge this week.

Tony Dixon from Macclesfield is pictured calling in at the Asda store in Highbridge on Saturday (September 5th) with his assistant Jim Griffiths, where he was welcomed by store manager David Simcox.

Tony told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I left John O’Groats on August 28th and hope to arrive in Lands End on Tuesday.”

“It’s been a tough trip because of the extreme weather over the last few days. At times it’s felt as though I’ve been cycling backwards when riding into strong winds!”

“I’ve got an added incentive to finish in the next few days because my boss bet me £500 that I couldn’t finish the route within a fortnight!”

He is raising money for a cancer research charity called Christies and has collected over £1,000 so far.

Meanwhile, a separate group of cycling fundraisers also passed through Highbridge this week. Emma Christison and her five children – Ryan, 14, Theresa, 12, Carlos, 9, Sasha, 6, Jessica, 4 – are undertaking what they call “a mad, epic adventure.”

They are raising funds for a trip to Uganda and they passed through the centre of Highbridge. They have a fundraising page here.

John O’Groats and Lands End are the two furthest points from each other in Britain.
