Just three weeks after a man was killed in an accident on the A38 at Highbridge, a crash occurred just metres from the same spot on Saturday evening (September 5th), raising new questions about the safety of the road.
Police were called to the junction of Alstone Road and the A38 Huntspill Road at around 5.30pm after a two-vehicle collision, as pictured here.
The occupants were understood to have been shaken, but not injured.
Police officers directed traffic around the scene, but no closure of the road was necessary.
The accident comes less than three weeks after a serious collision between two vehicles just a few metres away towards Highbridge.
Twenty year-old Jon Puddy suffered multiple injuries in the crash on Sunday August 16th and later died.
Some local residents say additional safety measures are needed to make the road safer.
Highbridge district councillor Cllr Joe Leach told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “After a number of accidents here, including the tragic death of a motorist very recently, it is time the County Council investigated how this stretch of road could be made safer.”
“The current speed limit of 30mph is the lowest that can be set and enforced here by the police, but a voluntary 20mph limit could be introduced to make the road safer.”
