Several Burnham-On-Sea Special Constables have received awards during Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s annual parade and awards ceremony.
There are currently over 400 Special Constables in the force with 113 across Somerset West, an area that incorporates Sedgemoor and the Burnham-On-Sea area.
In the past 12 months they have given over 26,000 hours of their own time, undertaking a range of day-to-day policing duties including supporting front-line response officers with emergency calls, neighbourhood policing and tackling rural crime.
During the awards ceremony, the officers received well deserved recognition for their voluntary services to both the police force and the communities they serve.
Deputy Chief Constable Rob Beckley attended and spoke of his passion for the Special Constabulary and his appreciation for their dedication and commitment to local communities.
Somerset’s High Sheriff, Sylvana Chandler, and local Mayors attended and helped present a number of awards including Best New Recruit and several Long Service awards.
Probationary Special Constable of the Year was awarded to Paula Pocock from Burnham-On-Sea Police station by Burnham’s Mayor, Cllr Ken Smout.
Long Service Medals were also presented to John Davies from Burnham-On-Sea for nine years service and District Officer Annette Horsley for 19 years service.
