A young churchgoer waded into the sea next to Burnham’s jetty on Sunday (September 13th) to be baptised during a special church service.
Watched by her family and friends, ten year-old Jamie Craig took the plunge in the chilly waters of Bridgwater Bay.
Burnham Community Church holds several baptisms each year and a local swimming pool is usually used for the full-immersion ceremony, however the sea is ideal for public ceremonies and a similar service was also held in June.
Pastor Steve Mason told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Jamie’s family travel from Swindon to join our weekly services in Burnham and feel at home with our friendly church. We were delighted that Jamie wanted to be baptised with us in the sea. It was a special moment.”
The ceremony attracted a crowd of interested onlookers on the town’s jetty.
