Four members of Burnham-On-Sea’s Monarchs gymnastics club travelled to Bulgaria at the weekend to take part in a top competition and came home with armfuls of medals and trophies.
Mixed pair Ashley Payne and Katie Hoskins won three silver medals each and helped the junior team to claim the overall silver team trophy at the Gabrovo Tri Nation Tournament.
Team mates Monique Walcott and Yanika Johnson took two silver medals each and their team also won the bronze team trophy.
“This was the first time the club has taken part in this competition and came out very well,” Monarchs’ Anthony Merrett told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“They were competing against gymnasts from the Bulgarian national squad as well as some of the best gymnasts from Greece.”
“Another group of gymnasts from the club are getting ready to compete in Germany next month, including some of the youngest members of the club and we wish them lots of luck with that.”
“After that the top gymnasts in the club will be competing in the British Tournament in November.”
