Olympic medals awarded to pupils after problem-solving challenge

-

This summer’s London Olympics was the theme of a whole week of activities at Highbridge’s King Alfred School.

During the final days of the summer term, the Year 7 and 8 youngsters took part in a number of maths-based Olympic events.

The youngsters had their mental maths and problem-solving skills challenged in a variety of events, ranging from archery and weightlifting, to sprints and a relay.

Maths teacher and Olympic organiser Shaun Pavey told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “All the students have been challenged by showing them that maths can be used in a variety of ways beyond the classroom. They have also improved other skills such as working as part of a team.”

The winning students took part in a ‘closing ceremony’ when gold medals and certificates were presented.
