Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and BARB Search & Rescue were called to a major search for a missing person on Weston beach during the early hours of this morning (Monday).
A Coastguard helicopter, two BARB hovercrafts, three teams of Coastguards from Burnham, Clevedon and Weston, plus Police, RNLI and a fire hovercraft joined the search for a missing man.
“The missing man was described as being in a despondent state and had been reported missing in and around the seafront,” said Burnham Coastguard Officer Dave Welland.
“A full search of the beach and tideline was undertaken using multiple agencies sweeping the area for the person with no-one found.”
“The decision was therefore taken to stand down, pending any further information from the Police. It was another good example of crews working closely together.”
Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and BARB were called out at 11.45pm and were stood down at 1.25am.
