A Burnham-On-Sea tennis player had a big smile on her face this week after being selected to represent Somerset at a regional tournament.
Megan Rundle, 9, from Burnham’s Avenue Tennis Club and Mark First School, represented the county in its 9 years and under team during a match against Dorset, Cornwall and Devon.
Megan, along with three other boys and two other girls, played six singles and three double matches against each county.
Megan played a nationally ranked junior and won the first set 7-5, playing some excellent tennis in the process. Unfortunately, she lost the following two sets 7-5 and 7-3 but had good wins against Devon and Cornwall. Somerset finished second overall after being narrowly beaten by Dorset.
Megan has been training at Burnham’s Avenue Tennis Club for the last three years and has recently also been going to Taunton for coaching and squad training.
Head coach Vinny Duddy told Burnham-On-Sea.com he is “really proud to be a part of Megan’s achievements so far and is certain that she will continue to improve.”
The Avenue welcomes players of all ages and abilities. To get involved and follow in Megan’s footsteps, contact Vinny on 01278 782758.
