One of Burnham-On-Sea’s biggest and longest-running community groups marked its 25th anniversary this week with a ceremonial tree planting.
Burnham-On-Sea’s University of The Third Age (U3A) is celebrating its silver anniversary throughout 2017 and its President, Ken Hindle, planted a tree in Burnham’s Manor Gardens on Thursday (October 19th).
A small crowd turned out in heavy rainfall to watch Ken grab a spade to plant the Japanese flowering tree in the gardens, as pictured here, and unveil a small plaque next to it.
Afterwards, a lunch was organised for U3A members at the Beachcomber Inn in Brean, which was well attended.
The U3A in Burnham-On-Sea has over 560 members, with 42 separate groups offering a wide range of activities from table tennis and Scrabble to walking and craft-making.
A special congratulatory message on behalf of HM The Queen, written by a Lady-In-Waiting at Sandringham, was received by the group earlier this year, as we featured here.
