Brean holidaymakers raise over £5,000 for Burnham hovercrafts

A busy summer of fundraising at a Brean caravan park has raised over £5,000 for Burnham-On-Sea’s rescue hovercraft charity.

Dozens of holidaymakers at Diamond Farm have taken part in a series of events, ranging from sponsored hair colouring sessions to auctions, raffles and car boot sales to raise a huge £5,364 for BARB.

Diamond Farm’s Fundraising Committee handed over the bumper cheque to grateful volunteers from the charity on Saturday (September 26th), including BARB President Neville Jones and Chairman Mark Newman, pictured right.

Jayne Collins from the Diamond Farm Fundraisers said: “We’ve all thoroughly enjoyed this summer’s fundraising and are very proud to be presenting such a large amount to such a worthwhile cause. Our thanks go to everyone who has helped.”

BARB Chairman Mark Newman thanked the group, saying: “We’re hugely grateful to Diamond Farm for their continuing support of BARB and thank them, and all the holidymakers who have taken part in many fundraising activities over the summer period. All the money will go towards maintaining our equipment and training our volunteer crews.”

BARB, a 17 year-old charity, operates two rescue hovercrafts, an inshore rescue boat and a tractor. It has annual operating costs of £35,000. Its volunteer crews have helped and rescued more than 200 people.
