Huge crowds expected at Highbridge’s Apex Park Fun Day today

-

Crowds of children and their families are set to descend on Highbridge’s Apex Park today (Wednesday, August 1st) for a day of fun-filled activities on National Play Day.

This year’s Play Day will be held between 10am and 3pm and will feature more than 40 activities for children of all ages.

The activities will include archery, canoeing, paint balling and climbing plus attractions such as as assault course, inflatable slide, bouncy castles, soft play, forest school, basketball, table tennis, arts and craft, drumming, safe fishing and circus skills.

The event will be held as part of a nationwide initiative called Play Day to encourage thousands of children and young people to get outside and play. It is a free event and all children need to be accompanied by an adult.

Visitors will also able to see one of Burnham’s two rescue hovercrafts and learn how to play safely on local beaches.

Burnham Police will also be in attendance to give out advice on how to security mark childrens’ bicycles and other play equipment. And Burnham Fire Brigade will let youngsters clamber onboard one of their fire engines.

Organiser Liz Owen told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are grateful for the support of Isleport Foods, our main sponsor, as well as generous donations from local children centres, Somerset County Early years, Quest engineering, community games, the Apex ice cream lady, Bridgwater Lions as well as local Masonic lodges.”

“Parking is very limited, and we would ask all those planning on attending to walk, lift share, or use public transport where ever possible to try and reduce congestion.”

“It is not too late for local businesses and groups to get involved. The Play Day is organised by a small committee made up of volunteers, staff from Sedgemoor District Council and Somerset County Council. The committee relies on donations and grants to enable the day to take place.”

“If you think you can help through sponsoring the event, volunteering time on the day or maybe your organisation might like to run an activity, please contact either Rosie Pike on 07867967087 or Liz Owen on 07919540655. We hope to start planning for next year’s event in September so please give us a call.”
