Hundreds of jobseekers attended a free Recruitment Fair, organised by Sedgemoor District Council, at the Princess Theatre in Burnham-On-Sea on Monday (16th February).
Employers advertised around 125 jobs on the day with six jobseekers being interviewed and offered positions during the event.
110 application forms or expressions of interest were received for the available jobs with 29 interviews being organised for this week or next.
Sedgemoor District Council organised the event for local employers and organisations to showcase jobs on offer for local people, as well as apprenticeships, self-employment advice and training opportunities.
The employers in attendance included Avon and Somerset Police, EDF Energy Employment Brokerage, Berry’s Coaches, Papa John’s Pizzas, Red Berry Recruitment, 1610, Brunel Care, The National Autistic Society, Avon, Brean Leisure Theme Park and Army Careers.
Job Centre Plus also attended to showcase the variety of opportunities in the area.
The National Careers Service were also on hand to give help and advice on topics such as interview skills and how to compile a CV.
Bridgwater College, Somerset Skills and Learning, and Somerset Business Agency were also be available to discuss how jobseekers could enhance their skills for future employment opportunities or set-up your own business.
A spokeswoman for Sedgemoor District told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “300 people attended the Recruitment Fair in Burnham. The event was a great success with six people leaving with positions lined up and another 29 having interviews booked in.”
