A unique new event being held near Burnham-On-Sea this Saturday (October 28th) will allow local residents to meet and find out more about alpacas.
The South West Alpaca Groups (SWAG) is holding a Fleece Show and Craft Fair at East Huntspill Village Hall from 10am-3pm.
“This is a new event and is being held in East Huntspill because its a central location for visitors and our members and those of us who are organising the event all live within 20 minutes of the Village Hall,” organiser Judith Newman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The event includes the SWAG Fleece Show which will include a display of winning alpaca fleeces from all over the country.”
“The winners from the SWAG Craft Competition will also be on display and will include a range of fantastic yarn, knitted, woven and crocheted items, felted items and artworks.”
“The craft fair will host around 20 stalls selling locally made craft items. Stallholders include a silversmith, potter, artists, blacksmith, tailors, fused glass artist, woodworker, rugs and cushions made from Llama wool, crafters accessories, gift vouchers for alpaca walks and a wide range of items made from alpaca including fashion items, soft toys, yarn and raw fleece.”
Local people will also be displaying their skills at spinning, weaving, felting, fleece handling etc
And there will be a children’s competition run throughout the event called ‘Find the Alpacas’ for which a prize will be awarded to the winner.
She added: “We will also have beautiful alpacas and llamas at the event so that people can see these endearing creatures for themselves and ask questions about them and maybe get the chance to hand-feed one if they are lucky.”
