Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Poppy Appeal launched on Saturday (28th October) as collections get underway across the two towns with the aim of exceeding last year’s total of £28,000.
Burnham’s Royal British Legion is overseeing the annual appeal, which runs through to mid-November.
Volunteers and local groups such as Burnham-On-Sea Army Cadets and Sea Cadets are collecting at the two towns’ supermarkets.
The appeal was launched at Burnham-On-Sea Pavilion on Saturday by Mayor Cllr Bill Hancock, accompanied by Royal British Legion organisers and Pavilion manager Louise Parkin, as pictured.
The Pavilion will be selling poppies and collecting for the appeal over the next two weeks.
Organiser Ruth Crosby told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Poppy Appeal Collectors are the face of the Legion during the Poppy Appeal. They help provide as many opportunities as possible for people to wear a poppy to show their support for our Armed Forces, while raising important funds. We encourage local people to once again give generously.”
Last year, the Poppy appeal in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge raised £28,840 and it’s hoped a similar or larger amount will be collected this year.
