Home bakers in Burnham-On-Sea are being invited to begin perfecting their entries for a unique competition to be held in September.
The ‘Great Burnham Bake-Off’ will see residents challenged to make cakes of any size, iced or naked, rich or fruity.
The organisers, Bev and Sarah Simonds, hope that families will dig into their favourite recipes and get practicing over the summer before the contest itself on Saturday 29th September during the first Burnham-On-Sea Food and Drink Festival.
“Anyone who has ever licked a spoon can stand a chance to win the Great Burnham Bake-off Trophy,” organiser Bev Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The competition might be tough because several well-known figures in the town have already caused a stir in public meetings and street parties with fluffy Victoria sandwiches and sticky gingerbread.”
Alex Turco of competition sponsors Positive Wealth Creation Ltd added: “Competition is good, especially if it involves cake! Baking brings out the best in us and this competition should be seriously good fun.”
The Burnham-On-Sea Food and Drink Festival takes place in the Princess Theatre and Baptist Hall from 10am to 5pm on the last Saturday in September, with Side Orders happening at venues across the town during the weekend.
Bake-off entries should be presented by 2pm and will be returned to the baker after the judging for sharing or displaying.
The day will be a celebration of food and drink produced in and around Burnham, with local brewers, cider-makers and food-producers bringing their best to the heart of the town. Entry to the festival will be free, with tastings and workshops for all they family. For more information, click here.
